Elliot James were tasked with transforming a derelict, abandoned, crumbling grandstand seating area into Singapore’s first 6,900sqf enclosed retail market.
To design a space to cater for thirty individual vendors all trading under the umbrella brand of The Chillax Market. The space needed to cater for a cafe, florist, salon, nail bar and individual vendor areas showcasing a range of products from home ware and furniture to fashion and jewellery.
The style was to take on that of a rustic European market working with a muted pallet and drawing attention to the beautiful, architectural features through colour and lighting. Elliot James wanted to highlight the original beams with all their imperfections. These features assisted in creating a weathered and traditional look and feel to the space.
