There is a meaningful distinction between interior decoration and interior architecture — and for a significant renovation or new build project in Dubai, it matters enormously.
Interior decoration begins with finishes. Interior architecture begins with space — the structural relationships within a building, the way people move through it, the quality of light at different times of day, and the relationship between the interior and the exterior.
Elliot James Interiors is an interior architecture studio. Every project we take on — from villa renovations in Palm Jumeirah to commercial fit outs in DIFC — begins with the architecture.
Spatial planning and reconfiguration. We analyse existing floor plans and identify how the space can be improved — where walls can be opened, how rooms can be made to flow better, how the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces can be enhanced.
Technical drawings and documentation. Every design decision is captured in fully detailed technical drawings — floor plans, elevations, sections, and joinery details — that communicate precisely to contractors and craftsmen.
Structural coordination. Where structural changes are required, we coordinate with structural engineers and ensure all works comply with Dubai Municipality and community authority requirements.
Material integration. Architecture and material are resolved together — not sequenced. The choice of stone, the profile of a ceiling detail, the reveal around a doorframe — these are architectural decisions, not decorative ones.
