For Epsilon Elliot James was given a very open brief. It was to look professional but with a sense of fun and surprise. the style chosen was to be a mixture of ultra modern and the classical brought up to the twenty-first century. We wanted to create a clean, luxurious open space using only a selection of materials and then juxtapose the simplicity with traditional detailed pieces such as the antique desks, traditional artwork reworked, and the glamorous chandeliers.
For the Duxton Hill office brief, we were presented with a three-storey shop house that had previously been used for a very typical office space — carpet tiles on the floor, small, dark claustrophobic rooms, blinding florescent lighting and little natural daylight to work with. Yet, despite this, the building has a rich history and some beautiful architecture. Wanting to give the historic shop a renewed freshness whilst remaining sensitive to its original character and features, we started by stripping everything back to the bare minimum, in doing so opening up dark corners and reinvigorating the space.
The brief was to create an iconic, luxurious design that focused on intimate VIP areas, whilst still keeping a space that flowed naturally. The Club needed to have a memorable and glamorous style, with various exciting and ‘Instagramable’ features. The brief also specified the need for a smaller dance floor to ensure the space always felt full, but was surrounded by deluxe booths to serve the VIP audience the Club wanted to attract.
For Elliot James this project presented an opportunity to integrate the latest in LED and presentation technology with electronic privacy glass and to create an executive office with seamless, effortless connectivity and display. ”We wanted to create an extremely luxurious office space with generous use of space and high end finishes.”
